Role Overview 

Reporting to the PR and Communications Team Lead and working closely with team members in marketing and fundraising, in this role you will assist with a number of strategic public relations activities to drive media attention and expanding awareness of our brand and mission across channels — internally, locally, nationally, and internationally 

 

Essential Functions 

  • Assisting with a range of public relations, media outreach and internal communications and promotional campaigns.  

  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of key press materials in support of brand initiatives and announcements, including news releases, media lists, newsletter highlights, event recaps and PR plans. 

  • Pitching and securing targeted media coverage to promote editorial content, marketing/advertising programs and partnerships, brand events and promotions, staff announcements, areas of brand leadership and latest developments.  

  • Tracking all media coverage and mentions; source online, print, and broadcast clips.  

  • Monitoring websites and publications for related industry news and trends; compile regular news roundups for marketing staff. 

  • Identifying appropriate speaking opportunities and awards programs to increase visibility and engagement; manage and coordinate submission process and timeline. 

  • Managing upkeep of bios, headshots, and press reels for brand spokesperson.  

  • Assisting with internal communications programs and initiatives.

Key Relationships 

 

  • Add positions consulted for this role, both internal and external. Also include direct reports, if any, and level of supervision. 

 

 

Qualifications 

Basic 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, or English.   

  • 1+ year of public relations and communications experience in a nonprofit, agency or media environment.  

  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building and public speaking skills.  

  • A grasp of (or interest in learning more about) the fields of education, e-learning and international development.  

  • Solid fact-checking and proofreading skills.  

 

Preferred 

  • Prior nonprofit or media experience a BIG plus.  

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and SharePoint helpful. 

  • Experience working remotely as part of a team.  

  • Experience working in a start-up company, non-profit or entrepreneurial environment.  

  • Self-directed and disciplined with the ability to work independently in an ever-changing environment.
